A Night with Karen

As Mel said earlier, Karen has been completely goofy. She slept for a couple of hours tonight, but woke when the nurse had to readjust the leads to her heart monitor. I pulled up her sleeping mask to talk to her a bit, and she said, “Where is the room I was just sleeping in? It was black..and baudy!” I pulled her mask back down, and she said, sleepily, “Oh, there it is.”

The respiratory therapist came in, gave her a breathing treatment (which she loves….the treatment, not the therapist), but he ruined it by mentioning the bipap she’d have to wear in an hour or two. Her breathing is still shallow on her own, so they want her to wear the bipap while sleeping.

I have to admit, even though Karen isn’t making sense some of the time, it is so refreshing to be laughing with her again.

There’s talk of actual drinks of water tomorrow. Ah, the small joys of the ICU patient.
