What a day!

I arrived at the hospital today around 12:30, and was surprised to see the door to Mom’s room closed, with signs requiring you to wear a mask, gown, and take extra precaution!! Thankfully, as I rounded the corner, there was my family in the hallway to explain Mom had been moved to a new room. (751, just right next door)

She was unhappily hooked up to the Bi-pap mask to assist with her breathing, since her levels were higher than they should be. The mask was scheduled to be removed at 2pm, if all went well.
From 1:00-2:00, Mom struggled non-stop to try and remove the mask. At one point she yelled, “I can’t wait till YOU have to be on one of these things!” (Those were her loving motherly words for the day.)
The mask was removed at 2pm as promised, and then she was hooked up to oxygen through her nose. Her breathing levels are still a bit high, so the docs would like her to sleep…..but she’s been restless & completely goofy (thank the drugs for that!) all day.

At 4:00 the nurse & I positioned her on her left side (as requested) with her body pillow to get comfy, and hopefully get some sleep.

She talked nonsense for about 15 minutes, then finally fell asleep.

Respiratory Therapy came in the room less than 10 minutes later, but agreed not to wake her. As he left the room he slammed the door, and mom shouted, “WHO’S IN MY CAR?!” I tried not to laugh, but it reminded me of Billy Bob Thornton yelling, “BEAVERS ‘N DUCKS!” in the movie “Bandits”. Classic.

I calmed her down, and she’s been sleeping peacefully ever since….
