Things that make you go “Hmm…”

I was unable to visit Mom until late in the day today, and even though she reassured me several times over the phone she was doing well, I discovered otherwise.
She has being experiencing pain near her liver, for some unknown time (12-18hours?). It’s a constant dull pain, but becomes sharp shooting when she takes a [...]

Chuggin’ along…

Once again, the Lord has answered our prayers. Mom’s glucose levels were normal all day today, and she’s doin’ great. All other vitals are stable, and looking good as well.
When I arrived this morning, she was in bed, sleeping!!! She got about 90 minutes of sleep. Not a full nights sleep, but after what [...]

Evening update

Thanks to the invention of shower seats and extended shower hoses, Mom was able to take a shower all by herself tonite!
She hasn’t been able to do that since the day she entered the hospital. (The things we take for granted!)
On a less positive note, her blood glucose levels have been pretty high for the past [...]

Bye-bye water weight

Mom’s lost another 10lbs of fluid! (That’s 16lbs. in 2 days!) She’s slowly feeling the difference in her legs, making it easier to walk.
Vitals are stable, and she’s feeling fine. She got a “good 20 minute nap” and said it felt great.
She was scheduled for a chest x-ray today, but rescheduled for Wednesday instead.

Sleepless in Seattle….er, Omaha

Mom is still doing well, but STILL unable to sleep.
The back of her head is sore to the touch from lying on it non-stop, for 4 weeks.
Because of this, she can’t lie her head back in the recliner to sleep.
She positions a rolled up towel behind her neck to avoid any pressure, and each time [...]

33 hours at home, and still stable!

Mom is doing well. She is maintaining her strength, and has had no pains or complaints in the last 12 hours.
Other than 2 unexplained nosebleeds, today was a relatively good day.
She is showing significant loss of swelling in her left arm, though her feet appear to be more swollen. (Gravity?) I guess that’s to [...]

Home sweet home

As Jeff mentioned earlier, Mom’s back home!
Unlike last time, she appears to be doing much better, enjoying the warmth and comfort of her own stuff.
Also, she’s walking!! Slowly…..but walking!!
She walked 2/3 of the 6th floor hospital hallways, withOUT oxygen, and never dropped below 92% on her own!
That’s great news, and a big step (literally) toward [...]

Breathing troubles

Called Mom to say “goodnight”, and found out she’s having a hard time breathing. She’s still hooked up to oxygen (low levels), but can’t breathe properly unless she’s sitting up straight.
It’s difficult for her to sleep like this, so please continue to pray that her lungs clear up, and she can breathe easily.
She really needs [...]

Sleepy, sleepy

Mom is very tired today. She had a long walk (500ft??) around 4am, followed by chest xrays around 9:30.
She’s lost 11lbs. of fluid, so hopefully we’re on the right path of getting rid of all that excess water retention!
Dr. Cooney thinks she’ll be able to return home tomorrow.
Please continue to pray for her strength, as [...]

Great day to chat!

I just spoke to Mom about an hour ago, and her voice sounded great! She’s feeling well, and had no troubles talking on the phone.
We’re all snowed in, so today would be a great day to call Karen and keep her company through the phone lines.
