Dr. Reports

Posted by Jeff -

This morning we had a good report from a couple of mom’s doctors.

Dr. Cowles reported that her INR levels have reduced overnight.  This means in his words that in virtually all cases when the INR level reaches the level its currently at the liver makes a full recovery.  I didn’t get the specific levels as a I was a pretty happy with the recover news!

Dr.  Riley (one of the surgeons who operated on mom Sat) – her hemoglobin levels are stable and at this point he sees no need for any additional surgeries.

Dr. Lungs(didn’t catch his name) They plan to cut back her vent later today and will re-assess that tomorrow morning.

Pneumonia status – still on 3 antibiotics and is about where she has been here.  They are hoping that with her lightened assistance from the breathing machine will help in this aspect of recovery.

Her liver is still swollen and pushing up on her lungs.

My assessment – for what it’s worth.  I have been stopping in about every 10-12 hours here,  this has allowed me to “step away” from the moment to moment recovery process a bit.  It’s amazing to see the recovery process going on here.  She’s now taking much noticeably deeper breaths. Her color is back and she just looks well rested (when looking past all the tubes and machines).

I know she can hear us –  the other day we were talking about the cruise that we want on that she was supposed be on and all of a sudden she’s tossing and turning and machines are beeping every which way,  in hindsight that’s hilarious!  I am anticipating that mom makes a full recovery here – after all she owes me lunch at Red Lobster!

Best case scenario is that mom is off the ventilator tomorrow with a potential to be out of the ICU as soon as the weekend.  (optimistically speaking of course)

Times like this bring us closer together as a friends, family and *should* bring each one of us closer to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ – It seems that the trick is to keep this up when times are good and the issues of life don’t seem so dire.
